Positive Pupil Wellbeing
We put a great deal of emphasis on pupil personal wellbeing in Scoil Fionntáin Naofa. We dually recognise wellbeing as being both an enabler of learning and an outcome of learning. Over the course of the last two school years, 2025-2026 & 2024-2025, we have achieved two consecutive Amber Flags from Pieta House for promoting positive pupil wellbeing across the school. Our fabulous Student Council act as the 'Wellbeing Warriors' for promoting the key messages of the Amber Flag programme across the school.

We put a great deal of emphasis on pupil personal wellbeing in Scoil Fionntáin Naofa. We dually recognise wellbeing as being both an enabler of learning and an outcome of learning. Pupil personal wellbeing is fostered and encouraged across the school in different ways including:
- Provision for discrete SPHE lessons on a weekly basis across all classes in the school;
- A five week block of yoga, mindfulness and meditation sessions with Mrs. Áine Loveland aka 'The Yoga Fairy' for all classes at the beginning of each school year to help our pupils reintegrate to school life after the Summer holidays
- Participation in the 'Fun Friends' and 'Friends for Life' wellbeing and resilience building programmes which are fully endorsed by the World Health Organisation (WHO);
- Participation in the Amber Flag initiative in conjunction with Pieta House to promote positive mental health and wellbeing across the school. Our Student Council serve as the Amber Flag committee at school level and to this end have assumed the role of 'Wellbeing Warriors'.
- Different wellbeing focuses at whole school level i.e Strength Spotting, Positive Affirmations, Cultivating an Attitude of Gratitude, Random Acts of Kindness, Fostering Empathy, Positive Emotion Potions etc. ;
- Participation in mindfulness activities i.e from Go Noodle in all classes ;
- Participation in Christian Meditation in all classes (All school staff received training in the practice of Christian Mediation from Dr. Noel Keating during Croke Park hours in the school year 2023-2024);
- Engagement in/with Restorative Practice approaches as a framework for dealing with and addressing conflicts as and when they arise. All teachers received training in Restorative Practice (RP) approaches in conjunction with Laois Education Support Centre and RP is used across the school;
- Our annual Anti-Bullying Week in November each year;
- Safer Internet Day in February each year;
- Participation in the 'Food Dudes' healthy eating programme on an annual basis. Our Healthy Eating Policy was developed in consultation and collaboration with pupils, parents, staff and the Board of Management in the school year 2023-2024 and can be found under the 'Policies' tab above;
- A significant emphasis on various sporting and fitness related activities (Physical Education comes under the umbrella heading of 'Wellbeing' in the revised Primary Curriculum Framework 2023);
- Our annual 'Wellbeing Week' in March/April;
- Our regular whole school 'Teacht le Chéiles' (whole school assemblies) at which we celebrate different successes achievements.
