Home School Communication Policy
Scoil Fionntáin Naofa, Shanahoe recognises that effective home-school communication is fundamental to the realisation of the school’s overall vision and to the holistic development of each pupil. Central to this vision, is the creation of an environment characterised by high levels of collaboration, collegiality, co-operation, reflection and discussion among all partners in the school community, including pupils, staff members, the Board of Management, parents/guardians, and the wider community.
This Home-School Communication Policy supports and gives practical expression to that vision by promoting clear, respectful, and purposeful communication between home and school. Through agreed procedures and appropriate channels of communication, the policy seeks to foster a culture of shared ownership and shared responsibility, where all partners work together towards a common purpose for the overall improvement and development of the school.
The school recognises parents as the primary and natural educators of their children and values their role as key partners in the educational process. Effective communication enables parents to be actively involved in and consulted on various aspects of school life, supporting meaningful engagement with their child’s learning, wellbeing, and school experiences.
By establishing clear expectations around communication, this policy helps to ensure consistency, transparency, and mutual respect within the school community. It also supports reflective practice and constructive dialogue, allowing concerns to be addressed timely, appropriately and collaboratively, while maintaining a calm, professional and positive experience of school life for all concerned.
Ultimately, this policy aims to ensure that the shared purpose and vision of Scoil Fionntáin Naofa, Shanahoe are not only articulated but actively realised and ‘lived out’ through strong partnerships, effective communication, and a collective commitment to the continuous improvement of the school as a whole.
This Home-School Communication Policy was developed in June & July 2025 and ratified by the Board of Management at its meeting at the end of August 2025. It will be revisited and reviewed in June & July 2027 or earlier should a review be deemed necessary.
