Scoil Fionntáin Naofa, Shanahoe is a vibrant, country school situated in the village of Shanahoe 6.5km from the heritage town of Abbeyleix in the heart of Co. Laois. We have 62 pupils on roll this year, three mainstream classrooms and a Sonas Class for pupils with Autism. We are a 'Green School', an 'Active School', a 'Curious Minds STEM' Platinum award school and a 'Blue Star School' focused on the EU. We are a 'Nature Hero' award winning school and we were the first school in Laois to achieve this accolade, in the school year 2024-2025, at the highest level of 'Golden Eagle'. We were very fortunate to be selected as a 'Heritage Keepers' school by Burrenbeo Trust in the school year 2025-2026. We are also a 'Vex Robotics School'. We achieved our first 'Amber Flag' from Pieta House, for promoting positive mental health and wellbeing across the school, in the school year 2024-2025 and this was followed by our second Amber Flag in the school year 2025-2026. We are a Restorative Practices (RP) school and all teachers have been trained in RP approaches. Our 5th & 6th Class participate in the 'Crocus Project' with Holocaust Education Trust Ireland (HETI) on an annual basis in memory of the 1.5 million children who perished in the holocaust and the thousands of other children who were victims of Nazi atrocities. We are also a 'Creative School'. 'Creative Schools' is an initiative of the 'Creative Ireland Programme', led by the Arts Council of Ireland, that puts arts and creativity at the heart of children's and young people's lives. It empowers students to lead the development of arts experiences in their own schools. We also participate in the 'Food Dudes' healthy eating programme on an annual basis. There is an independent before and after-schools facility 'Na Blátha Beaga' now operating in Shanahoe Community Hall which is adjacent to the school. 'Na Blátha Beaga' also runs a pre-school facility. Mission Statement Scoil Fionntáin Naofa, Shanahoe is a Roman Catholic school under the patronage of the Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin. In Scoil Fionntáin Naofa, Shanahoe we strive to be a warm and welcoming place, which is respectful and accommodating of difference and diversity in terms of race, culture, religion, gender and ability. Vision Statement
In Scoil Fionntáin Naofa, Shanahoe we work diligently to ensure that our learning environment is characterised and underpinned by high quality teaching practices and stimulating, worthwhile and positive learner experiences for all of our pupils. We aim to ensure that all pupils in the school have access to a broad, balanced, stimulating and relevant curriculum that is fully responsive to individual learner needs. In addition, we strive to ensure that all pupils have access to a range of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, in order to further enhance and develop their learning, knowledge and understanding, while simultaneously developing their abilities and skills across a variety of different domains. One of our primary aims is to encourage and enable all of the pupils in the school to strive to be the very best that they can be and to reach their full potential in all domains of their lives-including the intellectual, academic, spiritual, social, emotional, imaginative, aesthetic, moral and physical. We set high expectations for pupil learning and achievement commensurate with individual ability levels. We capitalise on pupils’ strengths and abilities and identify, monitor and address areas for improvement. In Scoil Fionntáin Naofa, Shanahoe we put a strong emphasis on pupil personal wellbeing and we strive to ensure that pupils feel safe, secure and content in the school environment and beyond. Our School BandMusic plays a huge part in the pupils' development artistically, socially and emotionally here at Scoil Fionntáin Naofa. We take great pride in our musical performances with our School Band, which has been performing for well over 30 years now.

Sports, Activity & FitnessSporting and fitness activities are very important to pupils' physical health, general wellbeing & social development, and at our school we attach great importance to these activities as part of the holistic development of our pupils, whilst also recognising the huge part that sport and fitness has to play in terms of pupil personal wellbeing as duly recognised in the Primary Curriculum Framework (2023).We offer a range of different sporting activities at school level to cater for all pupils' interests. We also punctuate our school day with regular sensory and movement breaks across all classes.

In the GardenThe garden is a wonderful place for our pupils to actively learn about their environment and the rich flora and fauna therein. We utilise our garden throughout the year as a space for learning It is also a very calming and relaxing space for our pupils to enjoy.
